By now I'm sure you've all seen the new 7'11" Sage Bass rods. One for largemouth and one for smallies. THey've also developed a new line for them. The line for the largemouth rod is 330 grains, and I think the smallmouth line is 270. It was developed specifically for bass tournament use, hence the 7'11" length. It appears to be about an 8 or 9 wt rod. Sells for about $335. The Feb. issue of Flyfisherman Magazine (already out) has a paragraph in an article on saltwater fishing in the Yucatan about this rod, and they give it good reviews, especially the combination of rod and line that can be worked in closed in space and delivered accurately. As new as I am to fly fishing, I'm just getting into bass fishing with the fly equipment, and I do have an 8 wt, but it's 9'. And I've never used anything but WF8F line. I'm tempted by this new offering and waiting for Bass Pro to offer it, maybe pair it up with a reel as an "outfit." What have you all heard about it?
